Reasons Why Alexa Grasso is Favored to Win at UFC 306
Alexa Grasso is a -140 favorite to win the UFC 306 co-main event. One of the reasons is that this event is celebrating Mexican Independence Day, so you can expect the crowd at the Sphere to be on Grasso’s side. Still, the main reason is that she’s already defeated Valentina Shevchenko twice.
The first time she did it, it was a huge upset. Before the fight, Valentina was a -909 favorite, and after the first three and a half rounds, it seemed that bookmakers were right to favor her. However, in the fourth round, Grasso did the unexpected and beat Shevchenko by submission (neck crank).
A few months later, the two had a rematch and Grasso won again. This time, she did it by a somewhat controversial split decision, which is probably the reason why she’ll fight Valentina for a third time.
Can Valentina Shevchenko Get Her Revenge?
Valentina Shevchenko is a true legend of women’s MMA. She’s 23-4-1 overall with two of her losses happening to Grasso and two to legendary Amanda Nunes. Shevchenko is famous for her kickboxing, and many consider her to be the best female Muay Thai athlete in the UFC.
Apart from being great with punches and leg kicks, she’s also a fine grappler, the evidence being that seven of her 23 wins happened by submission. She also has eight wins by KO/TKO and as many by decision.
Valentina is 36 years old, meaning that if she blows her chance of getting back the championship belt, she might not get it again. That’s why we expect her to go into a beast mode on Saturday and throw everything she’s got at Grasso.
Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko 3 Prediction
Not too long ago, Valentina Shevchenko was thought to be invincible in the UFC Women’s Flyweight division. Alexa Grasso changed that, and Shevchenko is upset. She’s also angry for not winning the rematch, in which she landed four TDs while suffering just one. She landed just four significant strikes fewer than Grasso, but she did get knocked down once, which is what probably cost her the fight.
This time around, she won’t let it happen. Instead, we expect her to dominate the fight from the very start, possibly even getting a finish.
Pick: Valentina Shevchenko
