Alexander Volkanovski’s Rebound Fight
Volk is 26-4 overall and is currently 11th in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings. What’s interesting is that each of his nine fights was a championship bout.
He lost three of those fights. It all started with the decision loss to Islam Makhachev in the fight for the UFC Lightweight title in 2023, which ended Volk’s run of 22 wins in a row.
The Aussie fighter got another shot at the lightweight title against the same opponent, but he failed miserably. Makhachev beat him by a first-round knockout.
After that loss, Volkanovski lost again, this time in the fight for the UFC Featherweight title. Ilia Topuria beat him by a KO in the second round.
If he loses again, his dream of getting the championship belt back will go to waste. But if he destroys Lopes on April 12, Volk will get back in the title conversation.
The Biggest Fight in Diego Lopes’s Career
Diego Lopes is a well-rounded fighter with a 26-6 record. He joined the UFC in 2023, losing to Movsar Evloev by decision on his debut. However, since that loss, he’s 5-0.
He bet Gavin Tucker by submission and Pat Sabatini by a KO, winning the Performance of the Night bonus for each of those. He also defeated Sodiq Yusuff by a TKO, as well as Dan Ige and Brian Ortega by decision.
Lopes lands 4.20 significant strikes, which is one of the highest averages in the division. However, he also gets hit a lot (4.11 times per 60 seconds), which could be a major problem against Volk.
Another, perhaps even bigger problem, is that he’s not a very good wrestler. His takedown defense is just 52%.
