Borussia Dortmund and the Power of Westfalenstadion
With a capacity of 81,365 seats, Signal Iduna Park a.k.a. Westfalen is one of the largest sports venues in Europe. It’s also one of the noisiest soccer stadiums when Borussia Dortmund plays its home matches.
This stadium has been Borussia’s fortress for ages, which explains why BVB was able to destroy Atletico Madrid 4-2 in the second of their quarterfinal duel. It was the first time Atleti allowed four goals in 90 minutes since their first game of 2024 when Girona beat them 4-3 in La Liga.
The win over Atletico was Borussia Dortmund’s fourth win at home in the 2023-24 Champions League. They also drew two UCL games at Westfalen this season – versus AC Milan and PSG – with no losses so far.
The draw with PSG happened in the group stage of the competition. The game was played last December, and we saw each team score one goal.

Well, it can only happen if they don’t get hammered by BVB at Westfalen. They are aware of this, which is why their main objective in the May 1 game will probably be to stay undefeated. They will work hard to protect their net, looking for their chances on the break.
