CarePlus New Jersey, a company that offers affordable behavioral care and plans, has received a one-year grant from the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. The organization will use the money to establish a problem gambling and substance abuse program.
As announced, the organization received $120,000 for its new program. Being a company that deals with mental health, CarePlus recognizes the dangers that gambling disorders pose. According to experts, gambling addiction has one of the highest suicide attempt rates of all addictions and is an important problem to address.
Thanks to the funding, CarePlus NJ will be able to provide its clients with screening, treatment and case management for substance disorders and gambling addiction. The new program will offer clients 12 weeks of prescriptive treatment, education and care.
CarePlus NJ specialists will also work with the customers, helping them get their lives under control. Gambling disorders are oftentimes accompanied by turbulent relationships, financial trouble and social and legal issues. Because of that, CarePlus will assist its clients with advice and will address their needs.
The Grant Will Allow CarePlus to Help More People
Ann Marie Zihal, CarePlus NJ’s senior vice president of clinical services, addressed the new program. She explained that New Jersey has to deal with concerning gambling harm rates, adding that it is imperative to tackle the issue.
According to recent research, about 13% of people in the Garden State have some sort of gambling problem. To make matters worse, people affected by problem gambling would oftentimes develop other mental health issues, such as mental illnesses and substance abuse.
All of these require a learned approach to treatment and care, Zihal noted. She concluded that the recent grant will provide her and her team with the funding needed to help more people in need.
