Reasons Why UFC Des Moines Odds Favor Sandhagen

The main event features Cory Sandhagen (17-5) taking on Deiveson Figueiredo (24-4-1) in a clash of elite bantamweights. Both fighters are coming off decision losses, but don’t let that fool you, their skill levels are still super high.

This goes especially for The Sandman whose last bout was a decision defeat to Umar Nurmagomedov in a title eliminator, held in Abu Dhabi where the crowd wasn’t exactly in his corner.

Actually, all of his losses happened to elite opponents, and he didn’t get embarrassed even once. Before the loss to the member of the Nurmagomedov MMA clan, his last defeat happened to Petr Yan in the fight for the interim title.

He lost by unanimous decision, while just before that, he lost by a split decision to T. J. Dillashaw. In fact, he only has one loss inside the distance – a submission loss at the hands of Aljamain Sterling in 2020.

Can Figgy Overcome the Odds?

Deiveson Figueiredo is a huge underdog in the UFC Des Moines main event, which may seem strange given that he’s a former two-time champion. The reason behind this is his loss to Petr Yan in Macau last year.

It was a decision loss, so you might get the impression that it was competitive. In reality, however, Figgy got beaten up brutally. He absorbed 121 strikes while landing less than half that.

Staying on his feet through that kind of onslaught was impressive, but it also raised concerns about his durability against bigger, sharper strikers like Sandhagen.

Cory Sandhagen vs. Deiveson Figueiredo Prediction

Sandhagen’s range, output, and composure give him the edge. We expect a dominant performance from The Sandman in front of a fired-up Iowa crowd.

Our prediction is that he’s going to win, and we think he’s going to do it before the final bell. Petr Yan didn’t finish Figgy, but Sandhagen will.

Pick: Cory Sandhagen
