Galaxy Entertainment Group Chair Lui Che Woo Passes Away
GEG noted that it doesn’t expect Dr Lui’s passing to disrupt the company’s business or cause it to change its plans

Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), a company that operates casinos and hotels in Macau, has announced with a heavy heart that its chairman and founder passed away. The company added that it doesn’t expect the unfortunate event to have an impact on its operations.
GEG Bid Farewell to a Great Leader
According to the announcement, Dr Lui Che Woo, who founded GEG in 1987, has passed away on November 7, at the age of 95. An influential businessman and philanthropist, Dr Lui played a huge role in turning GEG into a regional powerhouse.
Among his historic achievements, the late chairman turned GEG into the first gaming company to be listed on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (HKEX). He also ensured that GEG was selected as a constituent of the Hang Seng Index in 2013.
Dr Lui is also popular for founding the K. Wah Group in 1955. Now an international real estate and hospitality giant, the group further attests to Lui’s business skills and savvy.
As a philanthropist, Dr Lui has also participated in a variety of project seeking to improve society. In 2015 he founded the Lui Che Woo Prize for World Civilization, which seeks to achieve a sustainable society, promote better welfare for mankind and encourage positive attitude toward life.
The Passing Will Not Disrupt the Business
In an official statement, GEG expressed sorrow for the passing of Dr Lui and extended its condolences to his family. The company highlighted many of his achievements and thanked him for his incredible contributions to the company during his lifetime.
GEG celebrated Dr Lui’s robust vision and leadership skills, saying that GEG wouldn’t be where it currently is without his input.
In the meantime, GEG noted that it doesn’t expect Dr Lui’s passing to disrupt the company’s business or cause it to change its plans. It also noted that a new chairman of the company will be appointed in due course and that more news will be shared at the appropriate time.
A possible candidate is Francis Lui, the son of Dr Lui, who is currently serving as the company’s vice chairman.
