Germany is one of the top favorites to win the 2024 Euro for many reasons, including the fact that the tournament is taking place in this country. Germany’s journey starts on Friday with a game against Scotland, which is a huge underdog in this duel. But can the underdog stage an upset?

Mannschaft Ready for Big Performance
Germany vs. Scotland is going to be the first competitive game with Julian Nagelsmann as the coach of “Die Mannschaft”. He got the job last year following the sacking of Hansi Flick who was in charge during the World Cup.
Germany did not do well in Qatar, failing even to qualify for the knockout phase despite being one of the biggest favorites for the trophy. It’s a similar situation once again, with Germany currently sitting in third place on the list of favorites.
It’s no surprise given that this team has some amazing players on the roster. In fact, Germany has at least two amazing players for every position on the field. On top of that, the tournament is played on their turf, so they’ll have huge support from the stands in every single game. Therefore, it’s no wonder that Germany is expected to obliterate Scotland on Friday.
Can Scotland Upset the Odds?
Scotland has never won a competitive game against Germany. In fact, this team managed to get a draw against this opponent only on two occasions – in 1969 and 2003. As things stand, these guys do not look capable of getting a win this time either. But can they surprise the odds and get at least a draw?
The problem is that their squad does not look great. They do have a couple of very good players, most notably, captain Andy Robertson and John McGinn. However, they’re nowhere near as good as those players wearing the Germany jersey.
Another thing that needs to worry Scotland fans is that their boys usually don’t do well against big teams. Within the last 12 months, we saw them lose to France, England, etc. The last time Tartan Army beat a big favorite was in March 2023 when they beat Spain 2-0. However, that game was played on their turf.
Germany vs. Scotland Prediction
Germany is the betting favorite for a reason. Anything but a big win for the home team would be a huge surprise. That said, it seems that the only question regarding the 2024 Euro opener is how many goals will Germany score.
With such offensive-minded players as Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, and Kai Havertz, Die Mannschaft looks more than capable of blowing out Scotland. We predict they’ll score at least three goals on Friday.
Pick: Germany & Over 3.5 Goals
