Illinois Grandfather Wins $1M Playing Powerball, Plans Trip to Disney World

The Illinois iLottery has turned yet another person’s life around, handing a prize of a million dollars to a lucky Powerball player.

When the player, described by the lottery as an “Illinois grandfather” bought the ticket on March 30, he didn’t think much of it. However, it was this ticket that would turn him into a millionaire.

When the player later checked his phone, he learned that one of his tickets was a winning one. Thanks to matching all five winning numbers for the March 30 drawing, the man was able to turn a single iLottery ticket into a $1 million payday.

For reference, the winning numbers for the drawing were 12-13-33-50-52. The winning Powerball number for the drawing was 23 and, if matched correctly, would have netted the Illinois grandfather an even bigger prize.

The Grandfather Is Planning to Take His Grandkids on a Vacation

In an interview, the man, who preferred to remain anonymous, said:

I was at home on a Saturday night and I opened my app to buy a Powerball ticket. I quickly scrolled through my account history, just to make sure I hadn’t already bought one for that night’s drawing. That’s when I saw an older ticket in my account saying ‘You’re A Winner!’ and I clicked on it.

The man couldn’t believe his luck when he learned that he had won a million dollars. When his wife got home, he asked her to read his winnings out loud. He said that it was at that point when it finally started to sink in that his win was, in fact, real.

The Illinois grandfather told the lottery that he plans on using the money to spoil his four grandkids. He said that they love traveling, which is why he’d love to treat them to something fun, like a trip to Disney World.

I’m thinking of taking them to Disney World for a magical experience. I’ve never been myself, so it’ll be a fun trip for the whole family!

In the meantime, the Powerball jackpot continues to grow. As of the time of this writing, the Jackpot is standing at $129 million with a cash value of $59.6 million. The next drawing is scheduled for April 24.
