The first leg saw Vancouver beat Inter Miami 2:0, which came as a sort of a shock given that Lionel Messi played for the Herons for the full 90 minutes. The soccer GOAT didn’t do much that day – in fact this was one of his worst performances since becoming an Inter Miami player.
Will he do better in the Inter Miami vs. Vancouver Whitecaps rematch? Keep reading to see what we predict.

Inter Miami Need to Start Winning Again
After the 2:0 loss to Vancouver in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, Inter Miami played one game in the 2025 MLS – and they lost 4:3 at home to FC Dallas.
But this wasn’t Messi’s fault as he wasn’t even in the protocol that day. Instead, coach Javier Mascherano decided to give me a day off. Actually, not just him – Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, Oscar Ustari – they all missed that game.
The reason was that the coach wanted his boys to get some rest and prepare for the Whitecaps rematch, which, at the moment, is their top priority.
Knowing this, it’s almost 100% certain that all of Inter Miami’s best players will start on Thursday, including Messi, who’s expected to play the most important role.
Can Vancouver Whitecaps Handle the Herons in Miami?
The Whitecaps are coming to Florida with the goal of not losing by more than two goals. This doesn’t sound too difficult, but it’s Inter Miami they’re facing against.
On the bright side for the Canadians, their recent form has been pretty good. In addition to the win over Inter Miami last week, they also defeated Minnesota United on the road in the MLS last weekend.
Their defense has been great lately, with their goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka keeping a clean sheet in five of Vancouver’s last 10 games in all competitions. Our prediction, however, is that the same won’t happen in the Inter Miami vs. Vancouver Whitecaps game on May 1.
Inter Miami vs. Vancouver Whitecaps Prediction
We’re almost 100% sure that Inter Miami will beat the Vancouver Whitecaps on May 1, but will they beat them with enough goal difference to advance to the final of the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup?
We think they will, and it’s Lionel Messi who we think will take care of the job. The best player in history is without a goal scored in his last three games, which is just too much. Actually, this is the first time that he went goalless in three games straight since joining Inter Miami in 2023.
He needs to pull himself back together, and scoring a couple of goals against Vancouver would achieve exactly that.
