Italy vs. Germany 2025 UEFA Nations League Odds, Time, and Prediction

Italy and Germany are among the most successful nations in Europe when soccer is concerned, but their national teams haven’t done much lately. For example, in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Germany failed to go past the group phase. Meanwhile, Italy even failed to qualify for the tournament.

More recently, the two teams played in the Euros. Germany hosted last year’s tournament but were eliminated in the quarterfinal. Italy’s journey finished a round earlier.

For all these reasons, both Italy and Germany are putting a lot of hope in the UEFA Nations League. Winning the title this year would skyrocket their confidence. Still, the No. 1 reason for going all-in in this tournament is that the winner will qualify for the 2026 World Cup in North America.

Italy’s Defensive Problems Need to Be Sorted Out

Italy finished second in Group 2 of the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League, which is why they got to play the winner of Group 3, that is, Germany. They finished as the runners-up after losing to France in the final round.

They lost 3:1 at home, but no one can say that the French were much better than them. In fact, Italy was the team that created more goal chances and held the ball in their possession for longer.

It’s just that their offensive players couldn’t get on target. In fact, their only goal was the work of wing-back Andrea Cambiaso. Meanwhile, their striker Mateo Retegui had a horrible evening, the same as his replacement, Moise Kean.

Still, the worst player on the pitch that day was Italy’s goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. Not only did he fail to stop two shots from the French, but he scored an own goal as well.

He almost certainly won’t be between the posts on Thursday as Italy’s captain Gianluigi Donnarumma is back on the roster. But will PSG’s goalie be able to stop Germany’s in-form attackers?

Germany’s Offense Looks Scary

Germany’s last game saw them draw 1:1 with Hungary, who scored the equalizer in the 9th minute of stoppage time. But the Germans didn’t care much because they had already secured the No. 1 spot in the group.

On the road to securing the top spot, we saw Julian Nagelsmann’s men put on some really masterful performances. They beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 7:0, while in their first match with Hungary, we saw them win 5:0.

Their arguably best player of the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League campaign has been Bayer Leverkusen’s playmaker Florian Wirtz. Unfortunately, he will miss the Italy vs. Germany game due to suspension.

Kai Havertz will miss the game because of an injury, the same as Aleksandar Pavlovic and Felix Nmecha.

Italy vs. Germany Prediction

With Germany missing several key men in the creative department, we might not see them create too many goal chances on Thursday. This also goes for the fact that Italy have learned their lesson from the game with France, so they’ll probably pay more attention to the defense.

As a result, we probably won’t see too many goals. But our prediction is that we’ll see some. And it’s Germany who we think will score.

Pick: Germany & Under 2.5 Goals
