Chargers Hoping Justin Herbert Can Outsmart Steelers’ Defense
The Chargers conceded just 13 points in the two games of the 2024 NFL. However, it’s their offense that’s been getting all the praise. They scored 22 against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1, with QB Herbert going 17-for-26 for 144 yards and one touchdown. He did something similar in Week 2 when he led his team to a 26:3 destruction of the Carolina Panthers. In that game, he threw for two TDs.
All this sounds great, but the thing is that he and his teammates played against two easy opponents. Actually, the Panthers are predicted to finish the 2024 NFL season with the worst record of all the teams in the league. The Raiders probably won’t do much better either.
So, how will the Chargers cope against one of the best defenses in the league? They did very well the last time around – in their most recent duel with the Steelers, they won 41:37. However, that happened nearly three years ago.
Oddsmakers Favor the Steelers to Win on Sunday
In Week 1, the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Atlanta Falcons 18:10. Their defense did a very good job at dealing with Atlanta’s new QB Kirk Cousins, getting two interceptions that day.
Offensively, the Steelers did okay as well, with Justin Fields going 17-for-23 for 156 yards. He didn’t produce a single touchdown, but he did make it easy for Pittsburgh’s placekicker Chris Boswell to score six field goals.
In Week 2, Fields got one passing touchdown, helping his team win 13:6 against the Denver Broncos. Once again, it was Pittsburgh’s defense that shone. These guys kept the opposition to just two field goals, recording two interceptions along the way.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Prediction
The Chargers are fantastic offensively, but if there’s a defense that can deal with them, it’s the one of the Steelers. We think they will keep them to under 20 points on Sunday. We also think Fields & Co. will produce just enough to get themselves another win.
