LV Music Producer’s Probation Appeal Rejected by Judge

A judge dismissed the motion for early termination of supervised release filed by Jamal Rashid, a popular rap producer, who was sentenced to prison in a prostitution case

A popular music producer and rapper, who was sentenced to nearly three years in prison, followed by supervised release, over running an illegal prostitution business, saw his request for early supervised release termination denied.

Early Release Will “Dramatically Simplify Things”

Jamal Rashid, who was also known as “Mally Mall” at a time when he ran a prostitution ring out of Las Vegas, was sentenced to a total of 33 months in prison on May 13, 2021. In addition to time behind bars, the popular rapper, who produced tracks for music icons such as Justin Bieber and Drake, was also ordered to undergo three years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence.

Court documents indicate that the rap producer’s supervised release is set to end on September 17, 2026. Until the expiry of the order, Rashid is prohibited from traveling without approval from his probation officer.

The sentencing came after Rashid pleaded guilty to one charge of using an interstate facility for an unlawful activity. Ahead of that, an investigation uncovered that he operated an escort service, which was a front for a prostitution business. As part of the guilty plea, Rashid admitted to operating the illegal prostitution ring between 2002 and 2014.

Chris Rasmussen, Rashid’s defense attorney, who was recently quoted by KLAS, explained during a motion for early termination of supervised release the negative impact this order has on his client’s career. “Early release from supervision will dramatically simplify things and make it a little easier to get through what have been several years of a difficulty [sic] life,” the attorney explained.

Judge Denies the Motion

Despite the motion of the rap producer’s defense, the request for early probation termination was denied. US District Court Judge Gloria Navarro acknowledged the prolonged engagement of Rashid in the illegal prostitution business, which spanned more than 12 years.

Moreover, Navarro outlined: “Defendant’s conduct was not the result of a single poor decision or regrettable judgment.” The District Court Judge also recognized the role of criminal activity in Rashid’s life, explaining that this was his “livelihood” for more than 10 years. Addressing the request to terminate the probation for work-related traveling, Navarro said that such a request is an “insufficient reason,” thus rejecting the motion.
