Man Arrested After Fatal Shooting at Illegal Gambling Club in Bridgeport

A shooting at an illegal gambling establishment in Bridgeport, Connecticut, resulted in the arrest of one suspect. The shooting has taken the life of two people, while two others, who were also shot, survived. The incident dates back to March when police were dispatched to 1542 Stratford Avenue, where an illegal gambling club operated.

In light of the shooting and subsequent investigation, the Bridgeport Police Department announced that one 38-year-old man, suspected of being involved in the crime, turned himself in. The man from Bridgeport, identified with the initials S.E., had an active felony warrant to his name and surrendered to detectives earlier this week.

Today the Bridgeport Police Department made the first of what will be several arrests connected to the shooting deaths of two armed men who robbed an illegal gambling club on Stratford Avenue in March of this year,

Currently, the suspect faces charges of stealing a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm and tampering with evidence. Suspected of being involved in the shootings, the man’s bond was set at $75,000.

According to law enforcement, the investigation into the deadly crime continues. The Bridgeport Police Department said that the latest arrest marks the first out of a number of arrests that will be made in relation to this criminal case.

Deadly Crime Leaves Two Injured, Two Die

Back in April, Joseph P. Ganim, Bridgeport’s Mayor, together with Roderick Porter Sr., Bridgeport’s Police Chief, held a press conference that took place in front of 1542 Stratford Avenue, where the deadly crime occurred. The two urged the community to report illegal gambling activities so that further violent crimes could be prevented by law enforcement. Since the shooting, the illegal gambling club has been closed down.

The deadly shooting happened on March 30, 2024. Around 11 PM on the day, police responded to a call for multiple individuals shot at Stratford Avenue and Logan Street. Law enforcement arrived on the scene and uncovered four people who had been shot.

A 30-year-old and 32-year-old male were found outside bleeding. The two were transported to a hospital where they were pronounced dead. Another two people who had also been shot at the illegal gambling club Stratford Avenue were treated for non-life-threatening wounds.
