The unnamed player readily imparted his wisdom to the lottery and other players who may be hopeful of pulling off a similar feat. There was nothing special in his win, he professed, but he did stick to one axiom – playing Fantasy 5 when the jackpot is over $250,000.
This proved to be a successful stratagem. Even after losing on a ticket the previous night, the man doubled down and tried his luck again. It took him some time to fully comprehend that he had won after having a near-miss on the previous night.
“I usually buy my tickets in-store, but the night of the drawing I realized I’d forgotten to buy some, so I logged onto MichiganLottery.com and bought two,” he said in an official press statement published by the lottery.
He also had to use the online lottery platform because he had forgotten to buy a physical ticket the evening before. Then, a message came informing him to “log in” and claim his prize. The man was naturally suspicious that it was all a grubby scam, but he verified that the email sender was legitimate.
He headed over to the lottery’s office inquiring about his prize and it hit him – it was real, he had won $795,905 just like that.
“What’s crazy is the night before I matched four out of five numbers on my Fantasy 5 ticket and thought: ‘I was so close!’ I was excited to win $100 but bummed that I was one number off a large jackpot prize. I never could have imagined then that the next night I would win the jackpot,” he effused, unable to believe his luck.
