Maryland’s Casinos Generate More Revenue Тhis April Compared to Last Year

Key Points
  • The state’s six casinos generated a total of $172.2 million in revenue
  • This is an almost 6% increase compared to the same month last year
  • MGM National Harbor and Live! Casino & Hotel generated the majority of that sum

Maryland’s six casinos brought in a combined $172.2 million in slot machine and table game revenue in April 2026. This represents a 5.9% increase over April 2025, and also marks the best-performing month of the fiscal year so far.

Casinos See a Rise in Revenue

Despite April’s strong results, however, total casino revenue for the first 10 months of Fiscal Year 2026 totaled $1.6 billion. That’s a 1.4% decline compared to the same period last year, while state contributions also saw a slight decrease.

State contributions reached $72.5 million, with $52.3 million allocated to the Education Trust Fund, both of which showed year-over-year growth. Beyond education funding, casino revenue also benefits local communities, the horse racing industry, and small, minority-, and women-owned businesses throughout Maryland.

MGM National Harbor brought in by far the biggest chunk of the revenue at almost $74 million, marking a 7.8% increase from April of last year. Considering the casino has almost 2,300 slot machines and over 200 table games, perhaps these results shouldn’t be surprising.

Live! Casino & Hotel comes in second place for revenue generated, with just over $63 million, representing an increase of 7.4% from April 2025. Both it and MGM National Harbor represent the vast majority of revenue collected from casinos last month.

The Horseshoe Casino follows with just over $15 million in revenue, which actually represents a slight 3% decrease compared to April 2025. Hollywood Casino and Ocean Downs Casino follow with about $7.5 million each. However, the former saw a 4.7% decrease in revenue compared to April last year, while the latter marked a 5.5% increase compared to the same month.

Rounding out the roster is the Rocky Gap Casino, which saw an increase of 7.1% in revenue from April 2025, with almost $4.5 million.

How Has the Gambling Sector Developed in Maryland?

To date, the state has six licensed casinos and sports betting, including mobile sports betting. In November 2008, Maryland voters approved a constitutional amendment permitting slot machines at five locations across the state.  Four years later, in November 2012, voters endorsed an expansion of casino gaming that authorized table games at all Maryland casinos, allowed 24-hour operations, and approved a sixth casino in Prince George’s County.

Maryland’s six casinos opened between September 2010 and December 2016. The Video Lottery Facility Location Commission, established in 2009 to determine casino locations and operators, awarded licenses to each of the state’s six casino operators. Sports betting was voted in 2020, while mobile sports betting launched in 2022

However, real-money online casinos remain illegal, despite several legalization efforts in recent legislative sessions. Sweepstakes casinos have also been in the crosshairs of Maryland legislators recently, as a recent House Bill aims to ban sweepstakes and other types of forms of gambling it describes as “illegal.”
