Powerball launched in Australia nearly three decades ago back in 1996. Since then, the popular lottery game made many people millionaires, giving prizes on a weekly drawing that takes place every Thursday night. The latest drawing saw a person from New South Wales become the newest millionaire from the popular game.
The person, whose name is not disclosed, matched all main numbers from draw 1466 on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Matching the winning numbers 1, 11, 17, 20, 23, 30, 32 along with the Powerball 16, the person won the lottery game’s grand prize, a staggering AU$40 million ($26.7 million) jackpot.
Data released by OZ Lotteries reveals that the total dividends from the latest drawing were nearly AU$65.3 million ($43.5 million). This total included the jackpot, along with all other prize tier dividends.
While one person from NSW scooped up the jackpot, others won a second-tier prize by matching the seven main numbers from the Powerball draw 1466. Overall, 27 lucky lottery players secured a tier two prize of AU$26,016 ($17,300).
On the other hand, matching the six main numbers along with the Powerball number granted 107 players an AU$8,161 ($5,400) prize each. Some 2056 punters won AU$369 ($246) for guessing correctly the six main numbers from the latest draw.
As is usual, the lowest prize tier saw the highest number of wins. A total of 817,534 players won a prize from the lottery game’s lowest prize tier.
Millions of Dollars Won by Lucky Players in the Last Month
Australia’s Powerball grants players a chance to win multi-million-dollar tier one prize by guessing correctly all drawn numbers. The chances of winning the jackpot from Powerball in the country are 1 in 134.5 million. The chances of winning a prize from the game’s lowest tier are 1 in 66.
Back in May, a lucky player in Australia made history by securing a massive AU$150 Powerball jackpot. The incredibly lucky player guessed correctly all winning numbers to secure the game’s grand prize. In addition, nine other players took home a second-tier prize of AU$276,036 each.
Late last month, an NSW lotto winner who scored AU$13 million ($8.6 million), admitted that he plans to continue working his regular job. Surprisingly, the man initially thought that he won only AU$13 ($8.60) before realizing that he secured the multi-million-dollar jackpot. The man was one out of a total of three players that each secured AU$13 million ($8.6 million).
