Powerball Player in Georgia Wins $1M Prize, Jackpot Reaches $100M

Key Points
  • The Powerball prize has reached $100 million after no one won it Saturday
  • A single player from Georgia, however, managed to win a $1 million Match 5 prize
  • So far, Powerball has awarded 5 jackpots in 2026

A lucky Powerball ticket-holder in Georgia has become the recipient of a $1 million Match 5 prize after correctly guessing all five winning numbers for the Saturday drawing. The player narrowly missed the game’s jackpot, which has now reached $100 million.

Powerball Jackpot Reaches the $100M Milestone

The Saturday Powerball drawing crowned no victor of the game’s top prize, which has now reached a major milestone. However, there were a few players who came close, either matching the five white numbers or four white numbers plus the Powerball.

The winning numbers drawn on May 16 were 8, 37, 40, 44, and 65, plus the red Powerball 18. Matching all of these would have resulted in an $89 million payday for a hypothetical winner. However, since no one was that lucky, the jackpot will carry on to the next drawing.

While the top prize did not land, a few players managed to score mouth-watering prizes. These included a ticket-holder in Georgia who matched the five white numbers to win $1 million for the game.

At the same time, five players won $50,000 each after matching four white numbers plus the red Powerball. Three others matched the same numbers, but took $150,000 each instead due to the fact that they had the Power Play feature active.

For reference, the Power Play multiplier for the May 16 drawing was 3x.

The Powerball jackpot has reached $100 million for today’s drawing. A hypothetical winner will be able to either pick the annuity for the full sum, or the one-time lump-sum option of $43.9 million.

Powerball Awarded Several Big Prizes Recently

The $1 million Match 5 win in Georgia comes not too long after a player in California won a Match 5 prize from the game. However, the California player won $470,739 instead of the usual $1 million due to the fact that the California Lottery modifies the prizes based on the number of tickets sold.

In terms of jackpots, Powerball has so far awarded 5 in 2026, with the two most recent ones happening very recently. The first of these happened at the end of April and saw two winners share a $143 million prize. However, the real highlight of that drawing was the fact that dozens of players across America won Match 5 prize due to winning numbers matching common player patterns.

The very next drawing saw Powerball two separate players win the $20 million jackpot. This was notably the first time in several years that the jackpot has been won two drawings in a row.
