San José Police Arrest Two Men for Running Illegal Gambling and Drug Den
The SJPD's METRO Unit, while investigating drug dealing in the area, uncovered that the suspects were also operating a gambling operation on the same property

The San José Police Department (SJPD) has arrested two men after looking into an illegal gambling and drug operation run from a house in the area. Police caught Glenn Jingco, 40, and Sophana El, 43, when they searched a home on Meadow Glen Way.
SJPD METRO Unit Finds Weapons and Meth during Search
The SJPD’s METRO Unit led an investigation to fight drug dealing in the area. As they dug deeper, the officers found out that the suspects were also running a gambling joint on the same property. This discovery led to a bigger investigation. The police got a search warrant and on October 3, 2024, the METRO Unit, along with help from the department’s Special Operations MERGE Unit, stormed the house.
The search uncovered a variety of illegal items such as a homemade gun without a serial number, a sawed-off shotgun, different kinds of bullets, meth, and cash in several denominations. The officers also came across about seven big illegal gambling machines and various tools for drug use.
Jingco and El could not own guns because of their past criminal records. The police arrested them on the spot and took them to the Santa Clara County Main Jail. Both men are facing charges linked to running an illegal gambling and drug operation. One suspect is in jail without bail and is set to appear in court on October 22, 2024.
SJPD Urges Community to Help Combat Illegal Gambling and Drug Crimes
The SJPD stressed how serious these charges are pointing out that illegal gambling spots often act as centers for other crimes, like selling drugs and having guns. The department keeps looking into the wider effects of this operation and asks the public to share any additional info that could help their work.
People in the community with information about this case should get in touch with Officer Randolph from the METRO Unit. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the P3TIPS mobile app or by contacting Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers. Information that results in an arrest may qualify for a cash reward.
The arrests have a big impact on the SJPD’s work to stop illegal drugs and gambling in the city. The police want to shut down these operations because they put people at risk. This case shows how the SJPD keeps working to protect San José neighborhoods from crime groups dealing with drugs and guns.
