Casino robberies are not uncommon, considering that such establishments usually deal with large amounts of cash. The threat of such unlawful actions requires land-based casinos to invest in security solutions, including live guards, CCTV and in some cases even metal detectors and AI-powered solutions. Despite the casinos’ efforts to combat crimes, they remain a target for culprits who sometimes consider robbing a casino jackpot winner as an easier task.
Casino Patron Robberies Under Investigation by Tampa Police
In one such recent case, a casino patron at Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, Florida, was robbed of his winnings. While the incident dates back to early last month, it is still under investigation, a newly released report suggests. As announced by FOX 13, detectives with the Tampa Police are still investigating the robbery at Seminole Hard Rock Casino.
Law enforcement is looking into a potential pattern that involves the robbery of jackpot winners at the popular Tampa casino. Over the last few years, there have been several such cases recorded. Still, it’s important to note that Tampa Police is investigating, and it is unclear if any of the cases are connected in any way.
A spokesperson for the casino confirmed that Seminole Hard Rock Tampa isn’t aware of other current active investigations into robberies. With that in mind, the spokesperson reaffirmed the venue is prepared to collaborate with law enforcement and offer CCTV footage or other assistance. Last but not least, the spokesperson confirmed that Seminole Hard Rock Casino remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of its patrons and employees.
Robbery Victim Was Held at Gunpoint
The latest robbery dates back to the morning hours of February 5, 2025. At the time, one Seminole Hard Rock Casino patron won a jackpot and headed to his car. What the lucky visitor didn’t know is that he was followed by one individual, who, according to the police, was spotting. That person kept track of the winner’s movement and identified the car he got into.
Then, likely on the road home, the victim’s car was hit by the car of the culprits. Immediately an armed and masked thug went out of the other car and headed to the victim’s car. Holding the victim at gunpoint, the casino patron was robbed of his $3,700 winnings, per the Tampa Police.
According to a search warrant by law enforcement: “It should be noted per Seminole Hard Rock law enforcement, this appears to be a pattern with victims in their casino who win a large jackpot amount and leave the hotel in a vehicle (getting struck and then robbed at gunpoint).”
It is likely that either one or two people are responsible for the robbery. So far, the police haven’t detained anyone in relation to the crime. No evidence suggests the latest robbery to be linked with other such crimes.
