Woman Scores $24K Win from Michigan Lottery’s Roaring 20s

Instead of picking an annuity option for the full prize, the lucky winner chose to receive $17,500 as a lump cash sum

Participating in instant games online can be just as exciting as buying lottery tickets at a retail outlet. One fortunate woman who recently tried her luck with one of Michigan Lottery’s instant games was pleasantly surprised after winning more than $20,000.

The lucky Cheboygan woman won $24,000 by participating in the Lottery’s instant online game, Roaring 20s. Denise Matas is the name of the lucky winner who recently visited the Lottery headquarters to claim her prize.

When the 38-year-old woman was asked what she planned to do with the win, she said she intended to buy a new car and pay bills. To collect the full $24,000, the woman had the option to select annual payments. Yet, Matas picked a one-time lump cash sum payment of $17,500 instead of the annuity payment option.

The cost per ticket for Roaring 20s is between $1 and $5. The overall odds of the popular instant online game are 1 in 3.32, while the grand prize is a staggering $240,000.

Besides Roaring 20s, the Michigan Lottery offers a range of online instant games that offer multi-million-dollar jackpots, including Mega Millions, Powerball, Lotto 45 and Lucky for Life, among others.

Lottery players in Michigan have a large selection of more than 200 games with cost per play starting from $0.05 all the way up to $50. Currently, the Michigan Lottery has more than 1 million registered players who participate in different games online.

The Lottery Win, a “Huge Relief”

Speaking to Lottery officials, Matas revealed: “I have been playing the Roaring 20s game for a while.” She said that while she has always heard of people winning big prizes, this was the first time she was able to experience such a win herself.

The 38-year-old added she was in tears when she realized she had just won $100 a month for 20 years. Matas took a screenshot of the win and sent it to close friends and family to spread the word. She acknowledged the excitement the five-figure lottery win brought her, adding that it was a “huge relief.”

Elsewhere in Michigan, a lottery player tried his luck by playing another instant game and won a staggering $1 million prize. The lucky 32-year-old man from Sanilac County purchased tickets for Diamond Wild Time, one of the Lottery’s popular instant games.

After he scored the $1 million win, there is only one such prize remaining in play from Diamond Wild Time. Instead of an annuity option, the 32-year-old decided to receive a lump cash sum of $634,000.
